The Mauritius International Arbitration Centre (MIAC) is pleased to announce that it has concluded a cooperation agreement with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce International Arbitration Centre (LACIAC).
The agreement was signed on behalf of LACIAC by Babatunde Fagbohunlu SAN, and on behalf of MIAC by Mr. Yvan Jean-Louis, Director of MIAC.
It was doubled by the signature on the same day of a cooperation agreement between LACIAC and the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the context of the visit of its Secretary-General, Dr. Marcin Czepelak, to Mauritius.
During the signing ceremony, the LACIAC representative Mr. Fagbohunlu underscored that the Agreement was being signed at an auspicious time, as it followed the operationalization of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), which will necessitate Africa-based and Africa-focused dispute resolution services.
For his part, Mr. Yvan Jean-Louis emphasized that cooperation between African arbitral institutions like MIAC and LACIAC is more important than ever to bring disputes involving African parties back to Africa.
In addition, Ms. Assou, MIAC Registrar, observed that the collaboration provided an opportunity to strengthening ties between the two organizations, and to create synergy between the Arbitration in Lagos Project and the Mauritius Arbitration Project.
The event was held at the Mauritius Arbitration Suite in a hybrid format and concluded with a celebratory cocktail with members of the legal community in Mauritius.
