The Mauritius International Arbitration Centre (MIAC) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an Agreement on General Arrangements with the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
The agreement was signed on behalf of ICSID by Aurélia Antonietti, ICSID Senior Legal Adviser, and on behalf of MIAC by Salim Moollan QC, Chairman of the Board of MIAC.
The Agreement is based on Article 63 of the ICSID Convention and provides for the possibility of holding ICSID hearings at MIAC’s facilities. The Agreement also encourages knowledge sharing between ICSID and MIAC related to arbitration, conciliation, mediation, and other methods of dispute resolution.
“The Mauritius International Arbitration Centre has earned a well-deserved reputation as a centre of excellence for dispute settlement in Africa and globally,” said Meg Kinnear, ICSID Secretary-General. “I am pleased to offer MIAC’s first-class hearing facilities to parties in ICSID proceedings and look forward to strengthening our partnership with the MIAC Board and Secretariat.”
“The Mauritius International Arbitration Centre is pleased to have entered into this Agreement on General Arrangements with ICSID, and looks forward to hosting ICSID hearings in its state-of-the-art hearing facilities on the Port Louis Waterfront,” said Mr. Moollan. “Holding hearings in Africa for cases involving African States will be a further important step in the development of regional capacity and in the fostering of legitimacy which lie at the heart of the Mauritian international arbitration project.”
